01Cape Hedo

973-5 Hedo, Kunigami Village, Kunigami District, Okinawa Prefecture

Cape Hedo, located in Kunigami Village, the northernmost point of Okinawa Island, is a popular scenic spot with beautiful, dynamic cliffs and the endless blue sea. From this spot, which overlooks the Pacific Ocean and the East China Sea, you can even see as far as Yoron Island in Kagoshima Prefecture on a clear day.
This cape is more than just a scenic spot; it is also deeply connected to turning points in Okinawa's history.
After the Pacific War, Okinawa was under American rule, but when it was decided that Okinawa would be returned to Japan in 1972, the "Monument to the Struggle for Reversion to the Homeland" was erected at Cape Hedo. The feelings of the people who hoped for reunification with the mainland are still engraved on this land.
The Cape Hedo Tourist Information Center is a convenient place to start your trip. Local staff will provide you with detailed information about the surrounding attractions, and you can also get maps and pamphlets. There are also toilets and rest areas, making it an ideal place to take a break during your drive.
At the nearby Okinawa Rail Observatory, you can enjoy a panoramic view of nature from a unique building modeled after the Okinawa Rail. It's also a great spot for sightseeing photos.
Additionally, near the cape is the sacred Asumui Utaki, a place that has been treasured as a place of prayer since ancient times, where you can quietly experience the traditional culture of Okinawa.
It's about a two and a half hour drive from Naha city. Come and experience the history and prayers of Yanbaru while enjoying its nature.
